Birthday hike

Dry grass with the Olympic mountains the background.
Although the calendar said end of summer, fall was definitely in the air.

Clouds moving through mountain valleys.

Mother and son, photographing the view.
It was a very well-documented outing.

Every summer since we moved to Washington my husband and I have hiked Hurricane Ridge in Olympic National Park with his mother in honor of her birthday. We were a few weeks late this year, but we got it in over Labor Day weekend.

Every year she frets that she won’t make it and that next summer she’ll be too old or too unfit. Someday that will be true, for all of us, but not this past year.

Happy birthday, Darlene!
